Happy Halloween From RRFA
Wishing you lots of ghostly illusions, phantasmal encounters, and spooky spectres this holiday!
The frightful scene above is an image of an interactive installation by Catherine Heard, an interdisciplinary artist whose work often integrates traditional textile techniques.
In this piece, currently installed at Birch Contemporary in Toronto, the artist invites the public to contribute to the creation of a patchwork of Redwork embroidery pieces. A common household craft from the mid-19th to early-20th centuries, Heard is interested in these antiques for their ability to encapsulate how history and myth circulate in the domestic sphere.
